One-to-One Support
One-to-one support for children affected by domestic violence and abuse focuses on providing a safe and nurturing environment where children can express themselves and heal from their experiences.
Teach Tearmainn offers two types of One-to-One Suport
Living away from the perpatrator- 12 week one-to-one support sessions. These sessions are 1 hour long and happen weekly.
Living with the perpatrator- A 6 programme. This will only focus safety planning- both physicallty and emotionally.
Key Components of both programmes
Child-Led Approach
- Empowering children to lead the sessions
- Allowing them to express their feelings and thoughts at their own pace
- Fostering a sense of control and autonomy
Therapeutic Approach
- Utilising trained professionals to guide interactions
- Creating a supportive atmosphere that encourages emotional exploration
- Building trust and a strong rapport between the child and the support worker
Psychoeducational Resources
- Providing educational materials that explain domestic violence and its effects
- Using age-appropriate tools to help children understand their experiences
- Incorporating coping strategies and resilience-building techniques
Play-Based Techniques
- Engaging children through play to facilitate communication
- Using games, art, and creative activities to explore feelings in a non-threatening way
- Encouraging self-expression and emotional processing through enjoyable activities
Goals of the Support
- To help children process their experiences and feelings related to domestic violence
- To build coping skills and resilience
- To promote healing and emotional well-being in a supportive environment.
By integrating these elements, one-to-one support aims to provide a comprehensive framework that addresses the unique needs of children who have experienced domestic violence and abuse.
